Irelands highest summits!

24 - 26 October 2009, October Bank Holiday weekend

Jos and I set off for a walk on the Iveragh peninsula. After a long night's sleep including an extra hour (!!) we drove to Lough Acoon, not too far from Glenbeigh. From there our long walk started, here are some pictures that speak.....

Lough Eighter

The first ascent...

Climbing to the ridge

Coomloughra from the ridge

Skregmore - 848 m

View towards Killarney

The weather didn't stay so nice...

Beenkeragh, 1010 m

And then you find yourself on steep slopes....

Luckily, the mist lifted and we were back on track

My oh my, that ridge...

It looks as it is... hands and feet needed, but such magnificent views!

After tough climbing, finally on top of Carrauntoohill! 1,039 m
4 pm 25-10-2009

Don't we all remember this - only a year ago...

Quite a distance to walk back with only 2 hours daylight left...

And we had yet to climb another > 1,001 m mountain, Caher!

But then, it's good to know what's behind you...

And fairytale evening light... it just puts a spell on you

After sunset, we reached the foot of the mountain. The last hour, we walked back to the car with the light of a torch. We were absolutely wrecked, but delighted that we made it!
